| We are pleased to announce the release of the new version of this very popular training programme which is aimed specifically at the 'Care Home' environment. 'Fire Safety in Care Homes', has been produced in 3 modules; Fire evacuation in care homes, Induction training for care home staff and Fire Safety in Care Homes. |
 |
| This module covers the essential information necessary to instruct staff in the procedures that need to be followed if there is a fire or similar emergency in a care home. In this module we cover: |
| Fire Legislation | Includes basic information about the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the fire risk assessments that are required under this legislation. |
| Raising the Alarm | Everyone must understand the importance of activating the fire alarm as soon they discover a fire cannot be overstated. In this section we look at how the alarm can be set off manually by operating a fire alarm as well as the automatic system that protects the premises. |
| Calling the Fire Service | Making sure that the fire service arrive quickly will ensure that professional help is on hand as quickly as possible. All too often people have lost their lives because there was a delay in calling the fire service. This section covers the information that the fire service controller will require, as well as reinforcing the importance of making this call immediately. |
| Evacuation | This section begins by considering the major differences to evacuating a care home to most other premises where the occupants can generally leave unaided. We look at the steps that are necessary to ensure that residents are moved away from the fire zone, to a safe area on the same level. |
 |
| While it is important to ensure that staff are aware of the procedures to be followed 'in the event of fire' it is equally important that all staff have a good understanding of what causes a fire and how they can be prevented - the programme points out that this is everyones responsibility and offers practical fire safety advice about; How Fires Start, Electrical Equipment, Portable Heaters, Cleaning Materials, Kitchens, Waste, Arson and Smoking. |
 |
| All staff regardless of their position or if they are permenant or temporary employees, must be trained in your fire safety procedures as soon as they take up their position. This short programme has been produced from the content found in module 1. The essential information in this section has been edited to approximately 10 minutes, so that your new starters can be shown this programme to give them some insight into the fire procedures as soon as they start working at your care home. |
